Hello Washington, I am here!! After days of packing (literally days) I made it to Washington with an over 50 pound suitcase. Don't you just hate those baggage rules!
This morning started off just like any other Jones morning, equivalent to a Modern Family episode. Yes, I now know that if you leave 45 minutes before your plane takes off you will still make it.
But now I am here in D.C. and it is absolutely beautiful. I have learned two things so far. One, this humidity is not going to be good for this hair. And two, this whole city loves to exercise. On my taxi cab ride to the American University, where I will be staying for the first two weeks, I think I saw the whole city out running, walking, or biking. It made me want to put my tennis shoes on and go join them!
American University, Room #1. We learned that we are the only girls on our hall (hashtag coeddormlife). Do not worry mammaw we have our own bathroom. (My mammaw was worried about that).
Not a great picture of our humble abode for two weeks, but you get the picture. (No pun intended).
After checking in and waiting for Emily to get here we went to go eat lunch. So my first Washington meal was at a Thai restaurant. I do not know why that is so humorous to me, but it is.
With our bellies full of chicken pad thai, being the prepared interns we are we went to map our route for the next day. So much walking I can already feel the blisters forming. I wonder if my feet will be up to the challenge of high-heels? But I think that I will be able to handle this little commute to work. And if I can manage the metro then I am sure anyone can do it..
Welp that is pretty much my first day in a nut shell. Sorry I did not provide too many details, like the hilarious instances we have already been in, (Exhibit A, being caught in the rain and hopping from store to store looking for an umbrella).
But I am going to bed early because I have a big day tomorrow.
I still can not believe that I am here and I must admit that there are large butterflies flying around my stomach at the moment. But I know that this will be an experience of a lifetime and I can not wait to soak it all up.
The first leg of the journey is complete, which was getting here. Now let the second leg begin!
And so on,
Elizabeth
All that exercise will be good for AR...
ReplyDeleteAhhh!! I'm just picturing you livin' the life in DC right now. You're probably giving someone a tour of the capitol right now or something... Or maybe exercising before work!? Haha Love you so much and can't wait to hear more!!!!!!!!
