Ahh! Please tell me that you are not dying at that dress and shoes??
It started out as love-at-first-sight six years ago on a summer day in Santa Barbara. After 5 wonderful years, my fiancé proposed on our anniversary weekend during a getaway to San Diego. I wasted no time before drowning myself with wedding magazine as I started pulling inspiration for our dream wedding. We wanted a Gatsby style affair, traditional, black-tie, with the use of both indoor and outdoor spaces. We thought it would be fun to have a garden wedding, yet an indoor formal seated dinner. We knew we wanted an intimate gathering at a private venue with our closest loved ones and when it came to choosing a location for the wedding, we thought of all the endless possibilities.
There was a beautiful place that my fiancé had spoken so highly of over the years. A place where he grew up, learning to swim and play tennis, this 100 year old country club nestled in the Hillsborough country side, would be the perfect private oasis for the wedding of our dreams. I immediately fell in love with the lush green landscape, the extensive stonework and hedges, and the rich-history. After having come across two deer enjoying a late afternoon meal down by the creek-bed, I was sure, we would be married here! Once we picked our venue, designing the details came naturally. We drew from all the little things that were important to us as well as things that made our hearts melt. I chose the most amazing French florist to create our garden setting with big romantic fluffy arrangements in the softest shades of cream, peach and lavender. Being a true lover of stationary, I knew I had to have letterpress. Our save-the-dates showcased two lovebirds, an element that would also be featured on our wedding day with two live doves in a fairy-tale birdcage decorated with ferns and full blooms. The invitations were a labor of love, as my groom spent more hours than I can count on both hands looking through design options with me. I truly enjoyed planning all the details and when the day finally arrived, I could not believe my eyes!
It could not have been a more incredible day for our Gatsby-inspired, garden-themed wedding. Our ceremony took place on the beautiful grounds, nestled underneath a canopy of Oak trees, overlooking the sprawling golf course with a view of the San Francisco skyline off in the distance. Following the ceremony, our string quartet led the guests to cocktail hour on the grand lawn, where they enjoyed a variety of hors d’ oeuvres, and the club’s signature cocktail, The Menlo – a mojito with a twist! We had traditional Persian dancers lead us into the reception for a seated formal dinner in the main dining room, which looked out on to the grand terrace where we would later dance the night away under the stars! In the end, our wedding day was a true reflection of us. We tried to incorporate all the things we found to be beautiful to us as a couple while keeping it a classic and timeless soiree. With an amazingly talented and fun disco band, beloved family and great friends, our wedding was complete with surprise appearances from an enchanting fox; a family of deer and of course, our two lovebirds. Looking back, I truly wish I could plan a wedding every year! It was the most incredible experience and undoubtedly the greatest day of our lives.
Such sweet perfection. (Obviously mine would be without the Persian dancers).
And so on,
Elizabeth
