A Diva in Boots

There is nothing that I enjoy than getting together with my best friends from high school. Even though each year our lives seem to get crazier and crazier we always try to get together as much as possible during breaks, summer, and never fail to have our annual Christmas Party. Our get togethers are always full of loudness, laughs, stories, and of course gossip. What we do best! So it is needless to say when we all get together there is never a dull moment...

This past weekend Kirby, Carolyn, Tara, Ali, and I headed to the great state of New York to visit Jasmine at West Pointt! (Caroline missed out). Incase you did not hear she threw away her gold and purple clothes for a more tailored look at West Point MILITARY Academy. Talk about two polar opposites, huh? From tailgating to walking in single file lines. Anyway she follwed her daddy's foot steps and is loving the new adventure!

Our trip started bright and early when I woke up at 3 a.m. (yes that is right) so we could catch our 6 a.m. flight out of OKC to DFW. The plan was to leave at 4:30 but Kirby and her alarm did not quite get along that morning so we left a little bit later. Thanks to our dear friend Ali (who would not let us forget that SHE planned the trip) we were all on the same flight from Dallas to Newark. (She texted me, kirby, and tara about our flight every day the week before we went. She was quite worried and would have flipped a cow if we had missed it)!

Along the way we hiked through the streets of NYC (with our luggage) and ran through the middle of Grand Central Station to catch one of our trains which included getting first class seats of standing up between two train cars. (Thank you Ali, for "knowing" how to get there). Our traveling trip would not be complete without making the taxi driver stop through McDonalds on the last stretch to West Point. So FOUR HOURS later AFTER landing and taking two trains and a taxi to get there we made it to the gate of Westpoint. (Hence the word gate). I was getting flashbacks of traveling through Europe this past summer!

The BEAUTIFUL campus of West Point is set off the Hudson River. The trees are big and the leaves were changing colors. Before being allowed to enter the campus of West Point there is a security clearance where you have to show the guards your ids. So after our ids cleared we hiked up one last gigantic hill to get to our hotel...hallelujah!

So after a long day of traveling Jasmine's possee and all our luggage had FINALLY arrived! YOOHOO we are here!

Once arrived at West Point we checked into the Thayer Hotel, which is right on campus, and began our first trek of many through the West Point campus. The campus is very spread out so walking from one place to another takes a little while. Oh well at least the scenery was nice, but if only I had brought another jacket and my orthopedics... The first stop we made was to the boxing match. No no do not worry Jasmine was not actually boxing, she was cheering at the volleyball game. (Yep, she still has the moves)! We just went to check it out with some of her friends.

Fun fact (I am not sure how happy Jasmine will be that I am telling you this): But every "cadet" as a plebe(freshmen) has to take certain classes. These classes include boxing, hfkjs, ofdso. When Jasmine was in boxing they told her, "if you do not hit your opponent then we will not pass you." So Jasmine being the strong girl that she is made a girl go to the hospital because she fractured her eye! That girl just does not know her own strength. I think her hugs are pretty powerful I can only imagine what a right hook would feel like.

We then headed to the volleyball game and later attempted to go to the rugby game. We finished the night off with a sea food buffet!

Saturday morning we got up early to head to the parade! The cadet parade that is. First before all the people began marching around West Point has its own jump team. So the jumpers jumped. I think that if I went to West Point I would definitely want to be on the Jump Team! After the parade we roamed around of course taking plenty of pictures. But before we made it to the game we had to make a little pit stop at Mr. Morgan's class tailgate to get a ticket..

Now let me just tell you about Mr. Tom Morgan. He is a hoot! First off, he has an email chain among his fellow West Pointers of Jasmine. Not just stories about how she is doing, but pictures! So, when we would introduce ourselves to someone and tell who we knew they would always say, "Oh yeah, I have seen pictures of her that Tommy has sent out!" For instance, when we went to go pick up the ticket we were introducing ourselves to some of his fellow classmates and this one guy goes, "yeah she has the buffest arms!" If anyone knows Jasmine they know that she absolutely hates her arms so we all started dying. But, Mr. Morgan knows everybody and everybody knows Mr. Morgan! The whole weekend he was texting Ali, go find these people and take a picture with them and then send it to me or take a picture of the field or I do not even know! Let's just say he is one proud papa!

The game was fun! It was the Army/Air Force game and even though they lost by 20 we enjoyed seeing Jasmine strutting her stuff on the side lines tumbling and dancing. She even curled her hair for us. Even at West Point with those uniforms she has not lost her primp-ness. Cutest one on the sidelines, that is for sure! After the game we just hung out the rest of the evening. We walked the campus a little more, well really just to get back to the hotel, and ended cuddling in bed. Best way if you ask me to keep warm from the cold!

Sunday we got up early, packed, and went to brunch! A mimosa brunch that is! And don't you worry Jasmine and her roommate came to join us in their oh so stylish grey military uniform. After brunch it was time to head home. Since it took us a while to get to West Point with all those different types of traveling methods we decided to play it safe and leave a little early. But do not worry we did not forget to get a famous hot dog on the streets on NYC before we left! (Such tourists we are).

The weekend was short but sweet. Hanging out with my friends from high school will always be something that I treasure. When we all get back together it is like things have never changed! Oh how I love it! GO ARMY, BEAT AIR FORCE.

Oh and be on the look out for Jasmine's book coming (one day)...A Diva in Boots. Yes that is right she is going to write a book about her experience from LSU to Westpoint.
