Bob and Bust

This past week started out like any normal week; my mom cut my hair.  Let's just call it Gail's Beauty Bar.

My hair was fairly long or long for hair that is fried, highlighted and feels like Barbie hair (as my loving mother always calls it).  In other words it needed a little trim job.  So before we left for Vegas I decided to let my mom just snip my ends..I couldn't be hitting the tables with split ends y'all!

And the result was a BOB. (Please excuse my face, I just exfoliated.  Adult acne, but that is a whole other story.)  I should have known that that BOB was just a precursor to the bad luck we would have in Vegas.

You see my mom and I were on a Vegas high.  We were just in Vegas in July and our luck was well, I won $1,000 on a slot machine.  So since my aunt just had a rather milestone birthday we decided Vegas was the perfect spot to celebrate.  We wanted to share with her our favorite french bakery but more importantly are favorite slot machine.

So we ate, played blackjack, ate some more, lost some more and ended up coming home busted.  So much for our lucky slot machine.

The last night we were there my mom stayed up until 4:30 in the morning playing blackjack.  Oh, Gail. We may not have come away with too many winnings but atleast my mom came away with some new house shoes.  She took the slippers that they gave us in our hotel room.

But I do have some must eats for you future Vegasites.
1.  Mon Ami Gabi at Paris.  I am talking about your favorite day of the year happiness in your MOUTH.  They have a croque madame that would make you want to be a citizen from France.
2.  Jean Philippe at the Aria.  Two words; chocolate croissant.  One more word; cheap.
3.  Lemongrass at the Aria.  Thai food that will make your mouth water.  Get the pot stickers as an appetizer; it's an order.

Imma... Girl

Imma fried chicken eating, Netflix wathcing, unemployed girl.

That sentence may sound completely unproductive. However, au contraire, only 1/3 of that sentence is actually unproductive.

On Saturday night I celebrated my aunt's (?) birthday with my family at Babe's Chicken House.
Satur(day) consisted of fasting so that my stomach would be ready to indulge in all that southern cooking goodness that Babe's offers.  It is like we were blood hounds, eating faster than the waitress could supply the bowls of sides.  We walked away with the words, "I am never eating again" coming out of our mouths.  Well that lasted until cake was served later at home for dessert.  See... productive (being with the family that is, not all the eating)!

Now the Netflix watching is the 1/3 that is unfortunately not productive.  You see, my mom recently figured out how to stream Netflix on her tv in her bedroom.  Can you say legen-DARY!  I may be watching way too much How I Met Your Mother..

The unemployed part of course screams unproductive but really it is just a fact.  I may be unproductive at the moment but, that does not mean I am not thinking about working.  See so I really am 2 for 3.

So cheers to productivity and (to leaving for Vegas tomorrow).  If I come back a winner then I will consider that trip productive as well.  If not, then I will consider it extremely unproductive..

Summer of Reflection

If someone took a picture of me right now they would see this: a girl sitting on the couch in the game room with wet hair, a brown towel wrapped around her body and her legs propped up on the ottoman. There would be wooden tv tray that she found among her brother's college junk as a little stand that holds her cold cup of coffee and a book. The TV is currently muted on Fox business network.

How could you not complain? A college grad living the life in her upstairs "bachelorette pad" as she takes the summer off. I must say I have adjusted rather well to my new roommate, my mother, and I think she is getting worried that I might becoming too comfortable with my new living arrangements.

So yes, I am a college grad living at home with my mother. So what? I chose to do this I tell ya! I always feel obligated to tell people that so they do not think I am entirely a bum when I say I am taking the summer off - a phrase that will haunt me until the day I die when I told my mom my post-graduation plans.

Anyway I have pronounced this summer, a time of reflection. I have reflected so far that:

1. I like to sleep.
2. I love the shows on USA. My DVR is clogged full of them. Neal Caffrey in White Collar and Harvey Spector in Suits. Oh how my heart is melting!
3. I really like Johnny Cash.
4. I want to be Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel.

So cheers to all the reflecting and to living with Gail (my mom)!

Yoga Olympics 2050?

Well looky here! I am not quite sure how I feel about yoga becoming an Olympic sport but what I am sure about is that I need to start practicing!

I found this article on The Wall Street Journal this morning about the popularity that yoga has become."Going for the Gold in Yoga." Check it out!

It has always been one of my goals to start practicing yoga, or I really want to practice hot yoga. My cousin Katie and I decided to do some hot yoga or Christmas break. Ever since then I have been hooked! Well, obviously not that hooked because I did not follow through with my yoga but, after reading this article I am feeling inspired!

To the studio with my yoga mat (that I need to buy) we go!

WSJ - Good Investment for Me!

Hello it is the end of February and I have not written on this thing in SO long. Please accept my apologies because I know you have been dying for my wise written words.

Anyway, I have made it one of my goals or resolutions say you will to be more engaged in the news. Ever since I came back from Washington this past summer I have found myself interested in elections, foreign policy, and this crazy amount of debt we are in. It kind of always secretly annoyed me that all my mom watched as I was a child was Fox News (now her favorite is MSNCB - those stocks) but here I find myself doing the same thing. Call me my Gail!

More than ever (maybe it is just my maturity kicking in) I feel just how important it is to be aware of the world and what is going on. Whatever is going on in Washington is/will be effecting ME! Not only that, but here I am graduating college in May and don't I want to be able to hold a mature conversation with my co-workers? So, I bought a subscription to The Wall Street Journal, that my teacher may or may not have suggested, and away I went. I must say, it is the best investment I have made in myself in a long time.

That was a very round about way to finally get to my point. Tonight I was sitting on my couch, in my conversational area, in my room, in Norman, working on my public relations campaign paper that is due tomorrow, and watching Hannity. On Hannity they conducted a focus group with a group of conservatives and they were discussing the GOP primary race. Well, the first thought that crossed through my head was I want to be on TV and in that focus group. (I know, Elizabeth you will never be an actress)! But based on the questions asked my second thoughts were these:

1. Whoever wins the GOP race I will vote for in the general election, whether it is Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, or Paul.
2. I enjoy the debates. They are healthy competition between the candidates. It is important for the public to see these candidates hash it out and vie for our vote. Presenting their points, defending their answers, and having friendly debates are a critical component to the opinions that the public forms about each candidate.
3. I do however do not like this cattiness that has popped up. I feel these recent jabs at one another are too, not to the point. They need to speak closer to the issues that are so needed to be fixed.

Who do I want to win? Well let's just say I have two candidates that are still vying for my vote.

Bizzell Rave

Yes, we did it. We attended the legendary Bizzell Rave. My only regret is that I did not crowd surf!
Last year during finals week OU students gathered together and synced their music together and raved in the library. It was supposed to be a silent "rave" but that did not work too well. Last year we did not attend probably due to our laziness so this year we decided we needed to go! Since after all it is our last year!

So at 10:30 on the dot along with hundreds of other OU students, to take a little study break from finals, we raved in the library!
Now we will go down in history just like the rave. BOOM BABY!
